I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought possible
John, Head of Maintenance
has been working at BRC since 2002. He started at BRC as an intern through the workforce development program, and later became a permanent member of the maintenance staff and is now a senior maintenance worker.
WHEN YOU JOINED BRC, WHAT WERE YOU HOPING YOUR EXPERIENCE WOULD BE LIKE? HAS IT BEEN LIKE THAT?
I started as an intern [through Horizons Workforce Development Program] and later I was hired on as a maintenance worker. At the time I was just hoping to survive, but it turned out better than I could have expected.
WHAT KEEPS YOU MOTIVATED AND ENGAGED IN YOUR WORK WITH BRC?
The work that BRC does for people: helping them to change and turn their lives around. I’ve watched BRC grow and I’ve been able to be a part of it. I’ve accomplished more than I ever thought possible. I have a purpose – I actually love my job.
IF YOU WERE TO RECRUIT A FRIEND OR COLLEAGUE TO BRC, WHAT REASON WOULD YOU GIVE FOR WHY THEY SHOULD JOIN?
It’s not often that you can work in a place and empower and help those who are truly in need. It’s truly a good feeling. I might say that it has made me the person I am today.
