My name is Rachel, and I have been with BRC HomePlus in the Bronx since 2006.
I came to BRC from a BRC women’s shelter in 2004. I had nowhere to go at the time, and I also suffer from a mental illness called schizophrenia. At the women’s shelter, I had a case manager, Brenda, helped me a great deal with social security benefits and getting a BRC apartment in the Bronx. I don’t know where I would be without BRC HomePlus and my apartment - I am no longer on the streets. I am now able to live independently and don’t have to work about where my next meal is coming from.
I am also grateful to Sylvia (the program director) and Melinda (assistant director), and my case manager, Steven. BRC helped me to grow and become the woman I am today. I thank BRC, for giving me a second chance on life. I am so grateful.
